Both have good campsites near them. The lower meadow is larger, has a bear box, and is off the main John Muir Trail. A large camping area is spread among the trees around the bear box at the edge of the lower meadow. Fishing is good for brook trout in Bubbs Creek, both in the meadow area and above and below popular camping areas. West Vidette has a class 2 route and East Vidette is class 3. University Peak, which can be seen in the distance from Lower Vidette Meadow the distant center peak in our banner photos has class 3 routes.

But of course, everything went completely different. Because not a million spreadsheets, vlogs or gearlists can prepare you for the devastating beauty and power of the High Sierra. At the trailhead at 7 am, already a line of people gathered around the permit office. I was happy that I secured a permit long ago, and got the official permit the day before. After taking the obligatory photo of me at the trailhead, I finally put my first footsteps on the trail. I felt excited to be there after all the preparations last year.

We awoke early, determined to get a jump on Glen Pass 11, ft. Last night we camped at 10,ft. We would wake at about sunrise, rise maybe an hour later to enjoy a leisurely breakfast.
We drove out on Friday night and met up with Pavla at Whoa Nellie. Then we headed south to a decent campsite about a mile off of that would get us some sleep above 7k to help with acclimation. David also picked up a pair of socks at Wilsons. Finally we were on our way to the trailhead at Onion Valley. The drive up to Onion Valley went quickly, and as we approached the trailhead people were parked on the side of the road. What did surprise me was getting the two primo parking spots right at the trailhead!
